The city was for many centuries a centre for culture and education and nowadays is again a popular holiday destination. Zagreb can be divided into three parts, two of which are just staggeringly beautiful. In Gornji grad (the upper town), which dates back a thousand years, you’ll find the presidential palace, St Mark’s Church and many museums. In Doljni grad (lower town), dating from the 19th century, there are shops, restaurants and parks. Tip: Zagreb’s most beautiful street is the Tkalciceva ulica with its boutiques, galleries, cafés and bars.
