This lively metropolis is full of contrasts. The city divided by the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989 is now a melting pot of international flair and has a rich cultural scene. Amble through the Brandenburg Gate along the grandiose boulevard of Unter den Linden towards the museum island. Shoppers are spoilt for choice in Berlin, whether you want the traditional shops on the Ku’damm or trendier places in the centre or on Bergmannstraße in Kreuzberg, which has small shops, boutiques, cafés and second-hand places.
